Do you own your own business or have aspirations to start one? Have you ever given thought to the message you are sending or would like to send to your potential customers? When it comes down to building a brand, it’s important to consider this message. What you say or don’t say will have a major impact on the success of your business. Communicating a clear, concise, and effective message may be challenging, but firmly plants your brand in the minds of consumers. Communicate your message well and you’ll start building your brand through clarity.

Branding Basics

Everyone is aware of branding. Nike, Apple, Dodge, they all communicate a message, appealing to their audience. Aside from the textbook definition, branding is centered around emotion and emotion is what compels someone to make a purchase.

There are many products and services available today that produce near identical results. Companies achieve differentiation by appealing to customers’ emotions through branding. This creates customer loyalty and lifelong relationships that benefit both parties.

Brand Clarity

Clarity is your primary focus when building a brand’s message, everything else becomes secondary. What is the sole product or service you provide that’ll solve your customer’s challenges? Now, you may have a number of products or services, but those should remain secondary to the main focus of your brand.

The issue many businesses face is they present an overabundance of irrelevant information, products & services that aren’t in alignment with the core focus, and aren’t necessarily helpful to the consumer. This lack of focus comes across as noise and consumers are more likely to turn towards a competitor. Provide a clear message to your customers and leave no room for confusion.

Critical Branding Factors

In order to brand your business successfully, there are a number of factors to consider. It’s imperative these factors are concluded and decided upon for a solid foundation. These may not be all the factors to consider, but what I believe to be most critical.

1. Define Your Value Proposition

What core value will you provide your audience? Your business needs to be known for something and branded as such. Eliminate noise and focus on what you do best. Providing a clear, concise message about what you provide will clear up any possible confusion.

2. Understand Your Audience

What does your audience need? Your audience experiences frustration, which in turn leads to a need. It’s imperative that you research your target market to understand these frustrations. Doing so allows your business to provide a solution to the problem and alleviate their internal frustration.

3. Product/Service Solutions

What specific products and services will you provide? With clear messaging about your business’ core value proposition, clear understanding of your audience’s needs/frustrations, you can begin to create products and services that alleviate your customers’ frustrations.

Successful Branding

Achieving brand clarity can be difficult. It’s both science and art that takes calculated effort to improve. The key is to convey a clear message to customers that you can help them “survive and thrive“. Everyone strives for personal well-being and by helping others achieve through your business, you’re bound to succeed.
