Overview
Rosetta Stone has been a staple of language education for decades, but in recent years was in a state of decline. Lagging development and sales gave IXL the opportunity to acquire and revitalize the brand. The design team was tasked with breathing new life into Rosetta Stone.
Problem:
The purchase experience for Rosetta Stone was out-dated, clunky, and confusing for a majority of its users. This created a user experience that was less than ideal.
Objective:
Redesign the checkout flow and other pages to create a fresh look for the brand. Improve the user experience to increase conversion rates and lower the strain on customer service.
What I did:
Lead designer, user interface design, and interaction design on end-to-end checkout flow for desktop, tablet, and mobile devices along with additional supporting pages.
Project Introduction
Rosetta Stone was in need for a fresh new look. The checkout flow was one of the most important redesigns, carrying customers through to purchase completion. With my interest in user retention and conversion rates, I was happy to take the challenge. Below, you’ll find screenshots of the prior experience which needed a complete redesign.
Wireframes
When starting any project, clarity is vital. I need to understand the problem, the user, and the user’s environment so I can formulate possible solutions. From there I will create multiple wireframe options to efficently provide various solutions to the problem. Below you’ll find an example of wireframes for the Rosetta Stone checkout experience across multiple devices.
Final Designs
Once wireframes are approved, I move into higher fidelity designs that include colors, shapes, and imagery. The goal is to make the designs a lot more engaging and lively. I am highly adaptable and given any new design initiative, will design to stay consistent with the new direction. I’ll use a mixture of stock photography and illustrations along with a number of customizations to create unique imagery for each section of the website. Below, you’ll find the final designs I completed for Rosetta Stone.
Finishing Up
Rebranding Rosetta was a large undertaking that involved a number of designers. As the sole designer for the checkout flow, I accomplished the objectives outlined by the team.
Once designs are complete, I create interactive prototypes to further demonstrate the functionaly, make any necessary changes, and prepare for handoff to engineering.
